Floatation

What is floatation? Is this scientifically proven?

Floatation therapy started in the 50s and may also be known as Sensory Deprivation or Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (R.E.S.T.). People have used this to explore and experiment with consciousness, to de-stress, for muscle recovery, and meditation. Each tank is filled with about 500-600KG of epsom salt, making it so buoyant that you will float regardless of weight.

Recommended reading includes ‘The Book of Floating’ by Michael Hutchison, ‘Tanks For The Memories’, and ‘The Deep Self’ by John C. Lilly, both of which cite many research publications over the years.

Is there anyone that shouldn’t float?

Anyone with one or more of the following conditions should not use float tanks:
– Uncontrolled epilepsy or history of seizures, drug or alcohol intoxication, skin or infectious disease, open wounds and serious psychological conditions, medical conditions that are untreated or not under control, such as high or low blood pressure
– Prone to ear infections, skin allergies or reactions to Epsom salt or hydrogen peroxide cleaning products

You will be asked to sign a detailed waiver form before your first float. When in doubt, please consult with your doctor first.

It’s my first time. What do I need to know?

Like many things, floating takes a bit of practice. It also works differently for everyone, as you have a unique mind and body.

During your first float, you’ll spend some time adjusting to the environment, before you enter a meditative state. You’ll get there faster with every float.

We recommend to float at least three times to decide how floating fits into your lifestyle. Our 3-float intro pack is designed to help you discover the benefits at a comfortable pace.

What will I need to bring or prepare?

Swimwear is optional; we recommend going nude. It’s easier to relax with nothing on your skin. We provide everything else – towels, earplugs, and toiletries. You may want to bring conditioner or a comb.

Please eat a light meal up to an hour ahead, and refrain from caffeine three hours before your float. Please also avoid shaving/waxing on the same day. Other than that, just come with an open mind.

How is the water cleaned?

The water is fully filtered 3 times for at least 15 minutes between each float, passing through a 1-micron filter and a UV light disinfection system. The high concentration of Epsom salt dissolved also helps to create a sterile environment where microorganisms cannot survive in. We also manually add hydrogen peroxide to further enhance the sanitation.

What if I’m claustrophobic?

With the lights off, being in the tank feels as if you’re floating in the vastness of outer space. The pod is big enough for the average person to stretch out comfortably.

You are in control of your experience. The pod does not lock shut, so you may open it and step out anytime. We’ve hosted clients with extreme claustrophobia and they reported no issues in the tank.

Is the water hot or cold?

The water is heated to around 34.5 degrees – matching the temperature of your skin. As you lie still, this helps remove the sensation of the water touching your skin. This is the secret ingredient in giving you the sensation of weightlessness.

Can more than one person float in the same tank?

Floating is a deeply personal experience; only one person can float in each pod at a time. Each room is private with its own shower and float pod.

Will my skin prune up?

Nope! Soaking in Epsom salt water is a long-established health therapy. It relaxes your muscles and reduces inflammation, replenishes your magnesium levels, flushes toxins, and more.

Will I drown if I fall asleep?

Nope. The water is so buoyant that it takes a great deal of effort to sink. If you roll over, you’ll immediately be woken up by the salty water.

Can I float when I’m pregnant?

Definitely! It’s like placing a womb within a womb. Floating helps to relieve the aches and pains that come with pregnancy. If you are in your first trimester or have any concerns, please consult your physician before coming in.

Do I need to wear swimwear to float?

You’re recommended to float nude, so you can fully relax without anything tugging on your skin. All of our rooms have a private shower and lock from the inside, so you won’t have to walk around in a towel. That said, please feel free to wear a swimsuit if you prefer.

Can I float if I’m having my period?

We’d recommend waiting till after your period is over. You’ll feel more at ease if you don’t have to worry about leaks! That said, if you are comfortable and not experiencing heavy flow, you may use a tampon while floating.

Can I float if my hair is coloured?

If you’ve recently dyed or bleached your hair, please wait at least a week after to float. This applies especially to semi permanent hair dyes, as they are more prone to running.

I’m prone to motion sickness. Should I float?

If you are prone to motion sickness, you may experience it on your first float. It takes some time to get used to the sensation of floating. You may wish to bring anti-nausea pills. We’d also recommend to lie still in the water, so that it does not get choppy.

Are there any weight or height restrictions?

Our pods fits up to 2.1m. There is no weight limit, thanks to 600 kg of Epsom salt in each pod, you will float naturally and effortlessly.
